In this talk, Tina will describe the four categories, which also correspond to the four primary practices in Buddhism. She will discuss the effect that each practice has on our consciousness, as well as how they all work together for maximum benefit. Personality and Individuality

During this session, we will discuss the difference between personality and individuality. Even though personality reflects our individuality, it is a distortion of our essence which is the one reflecting uniqueness. Our essence is revealed by polishing the heart and not solely by training our mind.

Working With Our Hindrances and Defilements

The topic Tina is asked about most is--what do I do about the things that take me off my meditation? How do I work with that material other than just coming back to the meditation object? Traditionally, we just saw these thoughts as "distractions" that "didn't mean anything." But with the advent of modern psychology, we can discover that these patterns are actually the building blocks of the ego-self. By working with our patterns in a more sophisticated way, we can understand and digest them much more fully, with the possibility that they arise a lot less or even stop completely.

Presence – The Here and Now

We often hear the terms “To be present, to be here and now” but it doesn’t resonate much with us because we don’t understand its true meaning. People cannot embrace the Present/presence because our perception is emotionally conditioned by the experiences of the past and driven by the expectations of the future. During the session, we will explain the differences, what Real Presence implies, and learn how to perceive life in the Here and Now, and maybe experience the Present as the ongoing eternity.

Using the Enneagram as a Tool on the Spiritual Path

Working with personality patterns (the thoughts that take us away from our object when we are meditating) is an essential part of the spiritual path, as these patterns are the building blocks of our unique ego-self. This “transformational” aspect of practice is especially necessary in our efforts to embody what we have realized on the “transcendent” side of our practice. Fortunately, it is possible to digest and be more free from these patterns (known as the hindrances and defilements in Buddhism.) The Enneagram can be a very useful tool in this process, providing insights into the ego-identity that we came to believe is what we are. When our consciousness manifested into the physical realm and a body, it turned away from the Ground of Being and grew to identify completely with the body and the personality. Knowing and working with our Enneatype can be a short-cut that takes us back to knowing what we are beyond the body and the personality. It helps us see the patterns that are so deep in identity, that they feel like “me” or “that’s just how I am” and often we don’t even see them as patterns. Tina will talk about using the Enneagram as a tool that can accelerate our progress toward awakening.

Guidance Through Wisdom

Since the dawn of time, mankind has always received guidance, the spiritual paths, the scriptures, and the masters are living proof of this. With easy access to information, we tend to mistake being informed with being wise; although it has its benefits, it will never be transformative; it could be an enabler, but it will not transform. This is why, in our tradition, the focus is on the heart. This is where the Real knowledge lies, the guidance you through your life.

From Small to Big

Seeing the bigger picture is often advised, but to get the bigger picture, we need first to understand it's foundational, smaller elements. In this session, we are going to talk about how to focus on details that matter and understand their impact so we can develop the capacity to deal with bigger issues in life.

Our Role as Spiritual Practitioners in a World in Crisis

One only has to read the news for a few minutes, to feel that the level of multiple crises in the world is greater than it has been in recent history. As spiritual practitioners, what is our role in this world in crisis? How can we engage with physical reality without shutting down and lose hope (delusion), resorting to anger / judgement / fear (aversion), or just staying “head down” in our lives and trying to get more for ourselves to feel safe (desire)? It is Tina’s (and many teachers’) belief that those of us who are actively working to disengage from our defilements and cultivate opening to our deeper nature, are offsetting the seeming regression of consciousness in the broader world today. By holding our deeper Ground and overcoming the overwhelm, it is possible for us to positively effect the collective consciousness of Being. Join Tina in this discussion of our role in helping humanity-and ourselves--through this difficult time.
