Working With Our Hindrances and Defilements

February 20 @ 11:00 am 12:00 pm PST

The topic Tina is asked about most is–what do I do about the things that take me off my meditation? How do I work with that material other than just coming back to the meditation object? Traditionally, we just saw these thoughts as “distractions” that “didn’t mean anything.” But with the advent of modern psychology, we can discover that these patterns are actually the building blocks of the ego-self. By working with our patterns in a more sophisticated way, we can understand and digest them much more fully, with the possibility that they arise a lot less or even stop completely.

About The Teacher

Tina Rasmussen Profile Picture

Tina Rasmussen is a meditation teacher who leads retreats and offers spiritual guidance and mentoring to practitioners worldwide. Her mission as a teacher is to foster awakening and its embodiment in worldly life, through the application of authentic, rigorous Buddhist and modern practices.

Tina learned to meditate in 1976, at age 13. In 2003, after many years of practice in Buddhist and modern non-dual traditions, she undertook an intensive year-long solo retreat during which a profound awakening to Reality occurred. In 2005, Tina attended a retreat with Burmese meditation master Ven. Pa Auk Sayadaw, who ordained her as a Buddhist nun. During the retreat, Tina became the first Western woman to complete the entire Samatha path in this lineage. Tina was authorized to teach by Ven. Pa Auk Sayadaw of Burma. Tina also took refuge with Tsoknyi Rinpoche, a Tibetan Dzogchen teacher, and was initiated into the Nyingma lineage.
