Using the Enneagram as a Tool on the Spiritual Path

April 16 @ 11:00 am 12:00 pm PDT

Working with personality patterns (the thoughts that take us away from our object when we are meditating) is an essential part of the spiritual path, as these patterns are the building blocks of our unique ego-self. This “transformational” aspect of practice is especially necessary in our efforts to embody what we have realized on the “transcendent” side of our practice. Fortunately, it is possible to digest and be more free from these patterns (known as the hindrances and defilements in Buddhism.) The Enneagram can be a very useful tool in this process, providing insights into the ego-identity that we came to believe is what we are. When our consciousness manifested into the physical realm and a body, it turned away from the Ground of Being and grew to identify completely with the body and the personality. Knowing and working with our Enneatype can be a short-cut that takes us back to knowing what we are beyond the body and the personality. It helps us see the patterns that are so deep in identity, that they feel like “me” or “that’s just how I am” and often we don’t even see them as patterns. Tina will talk about using the Enneagram as a tool that can accelerate our progress toward awakening.

About The Teacher

Tina Rasmussen Profile Picture

Tina Rasmussen is a meditation teacher who leads retreats and offers spiritual guidance and mentoring to practitioners worldwide. Her mission as a teacher is to foster awakening and its embodiment in worldly life, through the application of authentic, rigorous Buddhist and modern practices.

Tina learned to meditate in 1976, at age 13. In 2003, after many years of practice in Buddhist and modern non-dual traditions, she undertook an intensive year-long solo retreat during which a profound awakening to Reality occurred. In 2005, Tina attended a retreat with Burmese meditation master Ven. Pa Auk Sayadaw, who ordained her as a Buddhist nun. During the retreat, Tina became the first Western woman to complete the entire Samatha path in this lineage. Tina was authorized to teach by Ven. Pa Auk Sayadaw of Burma. Tina also took refuge with Tsoknyi Rinpoche, a Tibetan Dzogchen teacher, and was initiated into the Nyingma lineage.
